The James Library & Center for the Arts is pleased to present The Mystical Penguin, a solo exhibition by Massachusetts artist Dawn Scaltreto in the Concert Hall.
Scaltreto, of Watertown, MA, is a professional artist and illustrator whose previous clients include the Boston Children’s Hospital and the Boston Museum of Science and Illuminations. She remains an active member of many local art organizations and is a key figurehead, and past President, of the New England Watercolor Society. Scaltreto’s work refuses to shy away from the whimsical nature of childhood, and instead chooses to embrace it.
The Mystical Penguin illustrations are a tarot deck. Each card took approximately 10 hours to render, making the 78-card deck no easy feat to complete.
“Although I have felt that divine Spirit at work with me in other creative projects, never have I felt it so clearly, and so instantly engaging than when I was at work creating these cards,” Dawn says. “I truly feel that these cards are meant to be, and I became the creative instrument of spiritual forces that deeply wanted this project to come to life.”
Each deck includes a 100-page manual that provides definitions for each card listed and details how to fully enjoy your spread. Mystical Penguin tarot decks will be available for purchase alongside the original illustrations. To learn more about her process: dawnarts.com/mystical-penguin-tarot.
