The James Library & Center for the Arts invites the community to celebrate in style at its annual Birthday Party Fundraiser on Saturday, May 1, 2027, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. This year’s event embraces the spirit and elegance of the Kentucky Derby with an evening of festive attire, themed activities, music, food, and live streaming of the Derby races.

Guests are encouraged to dress in their Kentucky Derby best as they enjoy an unforgettable evening featuring derby-inspired activities, birthday cake, and lively festivities supporting the James Library’s ongoing arts and cultural programming.

The annual Birthday Party Fundraiser honors the enduring legacy of the James Library & Center for the Arts, a beloved Norwell institution with roots dating back to 1874. Established by a group of local citizens as a gift to the community, the original building served as a public library and reading room before evolving into a vibrant cultural center dedicated to literature, music, visual arts, education, and community engagement.

Over the decades, the James Library has continued to grow through renovations and expanded programming while preserving the historic character and mission that have made it a cornerstone of the South Shore arts community. Today, the organization offers a diverse array of concerts, exhibitions, author talks, educational opportunities, and special events designed to inspire creativity and connection across generations.
