About the Nina Ott Latin Jazz Quintet

The Nina Ott Group is lead by pianist, organist and composer, Nina Ott. Although the group has its roots in jazz, it is also has influences in afro-caribbean music as well as elements of funk and soul music.

Ott is a native of Detroit and grew up immersed in the sounds of Jazz and Motown. She started playing at age 7 and has a degree in classical piano performance.

Later, as a young jazz pianist Ott cut her teeth in Chicago playing alongside drummer George Fludas, bassist John Whitfield, guitarist Jeff Parker, and sax player Pat Mallinger.

Nina is a Salsa and Latin Jazz pianist and arranger and has performed with Carlos DeLeon, John Calloway, Jesus Pagan Orchestra, Louis Romero y su Mazacote and flute player Andrea Brachfeld.

As an educator Nina has taught at Berklee College of Music, The Stanford Jazz Workshop, San Francisco Jazz, Rockport Music and currently travels with her husband and multi- instrumentalist Chris Lopes, teaching clinics on creativity, improvisation and Afro- Caribbean music.
