Massachusetts artist Lynn Bratley creates contemplative images rooted in close observation of the natural world. Her work focuses primarily on water and sky, exploring reflection, light, movement, and the layered beauty found in quiet moments of attention.

"I practice meditative photography and focus primarily on water and sky," says Bratley. "I live near the Charles River, one of my places for quiet observation. Here are abundant layers: surface reflections and ice; turtles, fish and rocks below; birds, clouds, solar circles and the moon above."

Using both her iPhone mini 13 and a Lumix F28 Panasonic camera, Bratley captures fleeting moments that invite viewers into a reflective and immersive visual experience. "The best camera is the one that I have with me," she notes, emphasizing the immediacy and accessibility of her creative process.

Before turning her focus to visual art and photography, Bratley had a distinguished career in theater and arts education. In 1982, she founded Improbable Players, a groundbreaking Boston-area theater troupe that used performance as a tool for addiction prevention and recovery education. Bratley served as Artistic and Executive Director for 35 years and received Tufts University's Outstanding Career Achievement Award for her contributions.

Following her retirement from the organization, Bratley transitioned to a more personal and meditative visual arts practice. Her photography has been exhibited at Till Wave Art Gallery, the Watertown Free Public Library, and the Concord Art Gallery Members Juried Exhibition. Bratley holds an undergraduate degree in Children's Drama from the University of Washington in Seattle and a Master of Education in Theater Education from Tufts University.
