Known for their electrifying performances and innovative approach to traditional Jewish music, Ezekiel’s Wheels Klezmer Band combines passion, virtuosity, and contagious energy in a sound that is both deeply rooted and refreshingly contemporary. The ensemble’s performances blend the intimacy of chamber music with the exuberance of a lively dance band, creating an experience that captivates audiences of all ages.
The band first developed its distinctive style performing in Boston subway stations and farmers’ markets, where spontaneous audiences and unconventional settings encouraged experimentation and improvisation. From traditional bulgars and doinas to surprising pop-inspired interpretations, the group cultivated a playful yet technically refined sound that quickly gained a devoted following.
Their growing reputation led to major recognition in 2012, when they won both the City Winery Prize for Best Klezmer Ensemble and the Audience Pick Award at the International Jewish Music Festival in Amsterdam. Since then, the band has performed at prestigious venues including the Kennedy Center, the Shalin Liu Performance Center, and Yidstock.
Over the years, Ezekiel’s Wheels has expanded its repertoire to include both traditional and original instrumental compositions, as well as songs in Yiddish and English. Alongside their concert performances, the musicians remain dedicated to preserving and sharing klezmer traditions through educational programs, workshops, weddings, and community celebrations.
Praised by judges at the International Jewish Music Festival as “a true musical democracy,” the band continues to bring joyful, boundary-crossing musical experiences to audiences around the world.
