Elaine Buckholtz is a multidisciplinary artist, lighting designer, and educator whose work spans light installation, video, photography, and sound. She utilizes light and optics as sculptural mediums to manipulate space, architecture, and human visual perception. Buckholtz has exhibited nationally and internationally at museums, galleries, and public art sites. She holds an MFA from Stanford University and has served as a faculty member at Massachusetts College of Art and Design (MassArt).

Sam Webb is a media artist, designer, and optical technologist specializing in interactive lighting systems, kinetic devices, and custom optical instruments. Webb’s practice merges mechanical craftsmanship with optical experimentation, collaborating closely with visual artists to build custom hardware that alters light transmission and spatial experience.

Together, Buckholtz and Webb create an exhibition experience that emphasizes optical devices; Custom-engineered kinetic and tactile light-manipulating tools and sculptures developed jointly by Elaine Buckholtz and Sam Webb that transform raw light into fluid visual landscapes. The exhibition also highlights Buckholtz’s immersive light installations and vivid, large-scale photographic/print works that capture ephemeral states of light and motion, reinterpreting architectural forms and natural environments.

On April 10th from 2-4pm you are invited to join artist Elaine Buckholtz for an Art Unplugged workshop where you’ll design and build your own optical device using reflective metals, transparent lenses, diffraction and refraction materials, iridescent films, and other elements. Experiment with light, color, reflection, and perception as you create a unique viewing tool that transforms the world around you. Free, registration required.
