Book Club: Unbroken Threads by Jennifer Klepper

Please email Robin to be added to the James Book Club email list.

UPDATE 3/14/20:

Hello Fellow Book Lovers,

Due to the continued closure of the James Library and the stay-at-home directives, we are going to try having a virtual book discussion this month!  Reiko, Jeanne, Jill and I had a test run using Zoom last night and feel that it is a workable alternative to meeting face to face.  We hope you all agree!

On  Thu, Apr 16 at 7:00 pm, I will host a Zoom meeting so that those interested in and able to join can discuss the book intended for March - Unbroken Threads by Jennifer Klepper.  Jill will be our facilitator.  We will continue to conduct our monthly discussions in this way until we can resume meeting as usual at the James.  The revised schedule is as follows:

Future Meeting Dates & Book Selections:
Thu, May 14 -  The Snow Leopard - Peter Matthiessen - Liz
Tue, June 16 -  355: The Women of Washington's Spy Ring - Kit Sergeant - Kathy
Sept Date TBD -  Eunice: The Kennedy Who Changed the World - Eileen McNamara - Jean

ZOOM Procedures:  Listed below are instructions for participating in the virtual discussion.  If you have any questions or problems about how to access the Zoom meeting, please don't hesitate to contact me via email, call or text.  I am happy to help out and can even walk you through an individual test session if you want.

  • All you have to do ahead of time is download the Zoom app from zoom.us or your App Store.  A tablet or computer may be better for viewing multiple participants, but you can also use your smartphone. If you use a computer/laptop, just make sure you have a camera and microphone.

  • I will send an email the day before the meeting with the link you can use to join the meeting the next day. If you have already downloaded the Zoom app, the link will take you right to the meeting.

  • When you join the meeting, be sure that your microphone and camera are NOT muted. It is also best to be in Gallery view so you can see everyone at once (instead of Speaker view). However, if you are new to Zoom, don't worry!  Once you join the meeting, I can help with any of these details.

  • With a basic free account, I am limited to a 40-min group meeting. However, I will set up 3 consecutive meetings that we can access to extend the discussion as needed.  This will involve everyone leaving the meeting and then joining the next meeting by clicking on the appropriate link in your email. We tried this during our test run last night, and it worked just fine.

Stay Safe & Well,

Robin Billing
