Join the Spare Studios for Art Unplugged: Upcycled Art Supplies. Material hacking and upcycling allow artists to rescue discarded supplies and transform them into professional-grade mediums. Rather than letting dried-out markers and broken crayons go to waste, this workshop teaches the chemistry and craft behind reclaiming them into premium, custom tools.
In this session, you will learn the step-by-step process to extract the remaining pigments from old water-based and alcohol-based markers to formulate vibrant, custom alcohol inks. Additionally, we will melt down and blend fragments of old crayons into a cohesive, custom-shaped crayon set featuring curated color palettes and enhanced durability. Participants will walk away with a deep understanding of how to safely harvest and manipulate these materials, taking home a unique, elevated set suitable for both classroom use and professional studio work.
Art Unplugged is for all ages.
Art Unplugged is funded by a grant from the Levitate Foundation.
