The James Library & Center for the Arts is honored to partner with Cheever Tavern to host an intimate evening of literature, legacy, and culinary delight with Susan Cheever on her latest memoir When All the Men Wore Hats: Susan Cheever on the Stories of John Cheever.

Bestselling author and biographer Susan Cheever will share reflections, personal anecdotes, and readings centered on the celebrated short stories of her father, Pulitzer Prize-winning author John Cheever. Often dubbed the “Chekhov of the suburbs,” John Cheever captured mid-century American life with elegance, irony, and emotional depth. In this special program, Susan Cheever offers an illuminating behind-the-scenes look into the man, the craft, and the enduring resonance of his storytelling.

The evening opens at 6:30 PM with dinner and conversation before transitioning to the reading and stories from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
