Show Statement
The years 2020, 2021 & 2022 have been a challenge to all. We have been forced to come face to face with a global pandemic, racial injustice, civil and political unrest, grievous attacks on women’s reproductive rights, attacks on our democracy, along with devastating effects of global climate change.
We have lived through illness, isolation, fear, anger, frustration and the loss of normality to our daily lives. The only consistency was that there was no longer any consistency. These past years have given us time to reflect on our mortality, mental health, relationships and decisions on how we choose to move forward and live our lives in the days to come.
For many artists it has been a very difficult time to create work, while for others it has provided time to create more work; embrace new mediums and new color palettes and allowed for more focus into their craft. For me, it has been wonderful to see the exciting new work and evolution of new mediums that has been emerging.
Years from now we will all look back at this time having become stronger and hopefully wiser. I am hopeful that we will acknowledge any shortcomings in how we handled these difficult times, while also taking great pride in seeing how we adapted and persevered. I hope to see us all proudly acknowledge the sacrifices everyone has made for each other’s health and survival, and that division will be replaced with unity to correct the social, political, racial and environmental issues that currently exist.
Some of the most incredible and recognized art of all forms have been created during difficult times in an artist’s life. The intent of this exhibition is to honor and showcase artists and their work created during these turbulent and unprecedented times, as well as inspire others to continue or start on a journey of their own personal artistic expression.
